SEDIMENTATION AND FILTRATION

The sedimentation and filtration processes work together to remove suspended solids, turbidity, and other particulate matter from the raw water prior to disinfection. Sedimentation allows heavier particles to settle out under controlled flow conditions, reducing the load on the downstream filters. Filtration then polishes the water by capturing fine particles that remain, ensuring a clear, high-quality effluent. Together, these processes form a critical stage in producing safe, aesthetically pleasing drinking water while protecting public health.

Leopold Type S Underdrains

The Leopold Type S is a dual parallel lateral filtration underdrain designed for uniform air and water distribution, efficient media cleaning, and extended filter runs. Made from durable HDPE it offers strength, corrosion resistance, and flexible installation for new or retrofit projects. Available with I.M.S® media retainers to eliminate gravel layers, the Type S increases media depth, improves backwash efficiency, and lowers operating costs.
